View More: http://robkorbphotography.pass.us/waterford-2014Name: Hannah Burmeister

Age: 21

Position: Lead Event Staff.

How have your responsibilities changed since becoming a Lead Event Staff?: Since becoming a lead event staff member, my role has definitely changed, especially since we have welcomed a bunch of new girls this year! I try to be more of a role model for them, and show them the “dos and don’ts” of working for Waterford. Expectations are set a little higher for me as well as the other lead event staff members, because we are expected to know what to do. Working with a positive and encouraging mindset is also crucial so I can reflect on the other workers, especially when times get busy.

How long have you been with Waterford?: I have been working with Waterford for a year and a half (best year and a half of working EVER!)

College/Major: I attend James Madison University. I am a Justice Studies major with a focus on criminology and criminal justice, with hopes of going to law school after graduating.

Favorite WER Memory: Oh my! There are tons of Waterford memories. This is hard to choose from.  I would have to say one of my favorites was our Christmas party last year. We all got together at Alyse’s house and there was a lot of laughter involved. That night Riane (one of our workers) decided to go upstairs where Ronni was sleeping (Alyse’s baby) and took the baby monitor that was in the room and called down to Alyse and Steve pretending to be Ronni talking. I guess it was one of those moments where you had to be there, but it was extremely funny!

Describe yourself in 3 words: Optimistic, Outgoing, Determined

Describe WER in 3 words: Wonderful, Fun, Family

Favorite Linen: Hmm.. this is a tough one. I would probably say our Ivory Petal and any of the sequins ones!

Favorite Sash Tie: My favorite tie would have to be the wrap around center bow.

If you aren’t working, where would we find you on the weekend?: You could find me at the beach, or the pool. Basically anywhere my friends are, and anywhere I can get tan !

What is your favorite part of the setup process at an event?: My favorite part about the set up process would have to be tying sashes while catching up with my coworkers. It’s always nice getting different partners to set up with, because there is always something new to talk about. I also love when we are close to the end, and you can look around and see everything come together. Every wedding is different, so going into a set up you never know what to expect. When everything is put into place, it’s awesome to see different ideas come to life!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to work in the event industry?: This industry is definitely amazing. It can be hard/busy at times, but it is totally worth it. Even if you never planned on working in an event industry, it is something new to try. It has taught me so many things that I never expected. I have gained amazing friendships with my co-workers. Everyone tends to know everyone. It is like one big family!

Waterford Wednesday: Creating A Glamorous Table

It’s Waterford Wednesday!
Working in the wedding and event industry, we’ve seen so many different styles of events. Modern, rustic, simple, elegant, you name it. . .we’ve seen it. Today is all about one of our favorite styles, glamorous! There are plenty of details that can be included in your event to glam it up and make it more luxurious, but of course, we like to focus on the table design! Here are some of our favorite ways to create a glamorous table.

Golds & Metallics
gold-pink-purple-womans-club-portsmouth-wedding-obx-wedding-photographer-95
We couldn’t talk about creating a glamorous table with mentioning sequins in some aspect! Gold and other metallic colors create such an instant glamorous feel to any event. There are a number of different ways to include golds/metallics whether it be from a full length sequins linen on a cake table, gold stitch work in a guest table linen or centerpieces. Whichever option you choose, you will definitely be adding a fancy touch!

Classy Plating
1975158_863624400341485_803905122981437986_n
One way to add a glamorous touch to your event is to really focus on your plating! For instance, utilizing plate chargers to add that extra touch of class and elegance can go a long way! Our beaded glass chargers are the perfection addition to a table to give it that extra special detail!

Seating
2015-06-24_0083
Seating is always a big deal at a wedding! A key to make a glamorous statement at your event is to dress up your chairs. Instead of leaving chairs uncovered, utilizing chair covers or sashes is the perfect way to do this! Our chiffon sashes weaved through chiavari chairs has been a huge statement this wedding season!

It’s time for another Feature Friday: Staff Edition!
We are excited for you to get to know another one of our amazing staff members! Keep reading below to see what TWO roles our sweet and bubbly Hayley has at Waterford!
View More: http://robkorbphotography.pass.us/waterford-2014Name: Hayley Hightower

Age: Just turned 21 baby!

Position: I am Lead Event Staff, as well as our summer intern for this busy wedding season!

What tasks/responsibilities do you have as an intern?: Every day is SO different, but overall I help with whatever Alyse and Rebecca have for me that day. I do sample books, design newsletters, answer phone calls, respond to e-mails, confirm appointments with brides, etc. Alyse and Rebecca have also given me the awesome opportunity to network by bringing me along to vendor events, introducing me to different vendors, and sitting in on client meetings. I have really been learning a lot!

We are currently hiring for our fall 2015 internship position! Do you have any advice?: It is important to ALWAYS be looking for learning and experience opportunities! I love when Alyse or Rebecca teach me something that I didn’t know about the wedding industry, or when they have me sit-in on their client meetings, because this experience is helping me grow in my dream career field!

How long have you been with Waterford?: I have been with Waterford for a year and a half now and I have loved every second of it!

College/Major: I am a Hospitality Management Major at James Madison University!

Favorite WER memory: There are so many good Waterford memories, but I think my favorite is this summer’s staff photo shoot when we thought it’d be a good idea to get ice cream cones (on a 97 degree day). Literally 2 seconds after having the cones in our hands ice cream was dripping everywhere. . .those ice cream cones became milkshakes real quick! But, Rob got some HILARIOUS pictures out of it.

Describe yourself in 3 words: SILLY, Observant, Driven 🙂

Describe Waterford in 3 words: Family, Charismatic, Amazing!

What do you love most about working at WER?: I love that were all such a family! It almost doesn’t feel like work to me because of how fun and upbeat we all are when we’re working together! Everybody cares about each other and is there for one another, I just love that we’re all such a close knit (hardworking) group!

Favorite Linen: UGH! This is so hard. . .my top 3 are our Silver Eyelash, Satin Rosette on Mesh, and Ivory Petal. I LOVE our sequins linens too!

Favorite Sash Tie: I’m with Alivia and Rebecca on this one, I love just a classic center bow, but I’m also in love with the chiffon sashes weaved through a chiavari chair!

If you aren’t working, where would we find you on the weekend?: THE BEACH! Or by my pool..somewhere under the SUN!

Being a Lead Event Staff what advice would you give to someone wanting to work in the event industry?: It is crucial, as a Lead, to show positivity and encouragement so that the girls (and myself) feel good about going the extra mile to make sure everything goes and looks perfectly! You also need to be responsible, FLEXIBLE, have good problem solving skills, as well as pay close attention to detail!

Waterford Wednesday: Statement Pieces

Happy Waterford Wednesday!
Today is all about statement pieces. . no, we aren’t talking about jewelry, but about the statement piece of your event! In our opinion, the statement piece of a wedding is the most interesting, attractive and eye-catching element! It will likely reflect the personality, style or vision of the bride and will have that crucial “wow” factor attached to it! Here are some of our favorite statement pieces this wedding season:

11113705_922108544519184_5257172727197675894_n-1We are still not over this beautiful table design at our A Crystal Clear Vision event! Blue Steel Lighting completely nailed our vision with this showstopper of a chandelier! The whole design, with the glamorous sequin linen placed under the sheer lace linen, creates a gorgeous and cohesive look that is topped off with the eye-catching chandelier!

View More: http://chelseaandersonphotography.pass.us/acrystalcleareventWe love when linens can take part in the “wow” factor of a table! This was definitely the case on this Luxe and Luna Couture Events table! The fun black and white striped linen that served as a runner, mixed with the black and white polka dot napkins was the perfect mix of patterns! The bold patterns were the perfect statement pieces against the crisp white of the table linen and beautiful hanging lights!

13173_922113624518676_8964117382662923628_nIn our opinion, the statement piece of an event doesn’t necessarily have to be the biggest object, just the one that makes the biggest impact! Antonia Christianson Events created the perfect statement piece with the gorgeous antler lights that hung above this rustic and historic inspired table! While the lights are not the biggest object in the picture, they make the biggest statement with their unique design and simple placement!

Feature Friday: Kendal Hersh

Welcome back to our Feature Friday: Staff Edition!
Today we are excited to introduce you to one of our awesome Lead Event Staff members! Check out Kendal’s interview below and get to know more about her and what she does at Waterford!
View More: http://robkorbphotography.pass.us/waterford-2014Name: Kendalyn Hersh (but most everyone just calls me Kendal!)

Age: 19

Position: Lead Event Staff

What does being a Lead Event Staff mean? To me, being a Lead Event Staff member is an opportunity to learn and apply the importance of time management! Either by being at the office earlier to double check the van, recognizing other members strengths and assigning them a task to speed up setups/breakdowns, or figuring out the most efficient way to clean 500 chargers in less than two hours at the office!

How long have you been with Waterford?: This will be my second wedding season at Waterford, and honestly the time has FLOWN by!

College/Major: Radford University, GO HIGHLANDERS! Proudly majoring in Bio-Pre Med with a minor in Chemistry (yes, blondes can be nerds too).

Describe yourself in 3 words: Focused, Friendly, Hilarious 🙂

Describe WER in 3 words: Unique, Professional, Family!

Favorite WER Memory: Haha, this is a good one. . .I was breaking down a wedding by myself late one night and as I was carrying all the dirty linens in trash bags out to our fabulous van, I hear a person call out “I just wanted to tell you you’re the prettiest trash girl I’ve ever seen!” I wasn’t sure whether or not to take that as a compliment, but I got a good laugh out of it!

Favorite Linen: Easy! I’m IN LOVE with our specialty Petal Linens. They add just the right amount of flare and texture to any event!

Favorite Sash Tie: The four corner bow. . it’s the perfect way to frame a chair with a pop of color!

If you aren’t working, where would we find you on the weekend?:  Either the beach or the gym!  Since I believe I’m a mermaid at heart it’s pretty normal to find me dipping my toes in the water somewhere!

Craziest setup story: My craziest set up has to be last summer when Hannah and I were asked to hurry to the oceanfront for an emergency wedding set up for a bride who’s vendors thought the event was the NEXT day! We had to think on our toes and cover over 150 chairs and tie sashes in under an hour!

This OR That:
 satin sash OR organza sash
setup OR breakdown
drive the WER van OR ride shotgun

What’s the most significant thing you’ve learned while working in the wedding/event industry?: I honestly have learned so much from Alyse and the wedding industry. . .this job has certainly rounded me into more of a leader and dependable person than I ever expected and I have had so much fun along the way!

Waterford Wednesday: 1 Linen, 3 Ways

It’s Waterford Wednesday!
A couple weeks ago, we did our first “1 Linen, 3 Ways” post on our lovely gold sequins linen, and we decided it’s about time for another! Our specialty linens have been a hot commodity this wedding season and we’ve seen them used in so many beautiful and creative ways. This week is all about our specialty Petal Linen!

2015-05-13_0082We LOVE the idea of using a specialty linen on a cocktail table. This isn’t something that we see a lot of, but we sure hope more brides take this unique approach to covering their cocktail tables in the future! Not only does the Petal give a lot of volume and texture, but also provides a more eye-catching look!

Amanda Hedgepeth Photography

One of the trends that has really caught our attention this wedding season {in a good way!} is the use of specialty linens on family style tables! It’s such an unexpected, but gorgeous surprise to see a specialty linen taking up a whole long table. Again, the heavily textured style of our Petal Linen makes this table a showstopper!

10424244_10101488910423707_1334874595004363738_nOf course we couldn’t forget our Petal Linen on a sweetheart table! The crisp white of this particular Petal linen was so sharp and vibrant at this outdoor wedding! We love how the floral on this sweetheart table was kept simple and really complimented the linen instead of competing with it. Our Petal Linen is full  of volume and can handle a table with minimal decor!

Feature Friday: Alivia Urquhart

We’re back again for our Feature Friday: Staff Edition!
Today is all about a staff member who’s a part of the team despite living thousands of miles away. Keep reading to meet Alivia and find out the role she has at Waterford!
View More: http://robkorbphotography.pass.us/waterford-2014Name: Alivia Urquhart. . .like Olivia, but with an A!

Age: 23

Position: I was a Lead Event Staff member until I moved to the West coast this past December, but I’m still (thank the lord!) part of Waterford as the blogger. So, all the Waterford Wednesday and Feature Friday posts are by yours truly!

How long have you been with Waterford?: 2 years

College/Major: My degree is in Marketing from Old Dominion University!

That’s awesome! Are you working in the Marketing field at all?: Yes! I’m currently working in the Sales & Marketing Department at one of the largest production companies in sunny blazing hot Las Vegas! It’s definitely bittersweet. . .I miss WER so much!

Favorite WER Memory: There’s been so many “favorite” memories over the past 2 years, but I’m going to say our monthly staff meetings were always a favorite of mine. It was a rare time that all of us were together in the same area so there was always a lot of fun and laughter!

Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Dependable, Ambitious, Sassy

Describe Waterford In 3 Words: Fun, Innovative, Growing (always!)

Favorite Linen: Ah, it’s so hard to choose! I’m going to go with our Satin Rosette on Mesh. Such a gorgeous, textured specialty linen!

Favorite Sash Tie: I’m partial to a traditional center bow. It’s such a classic tie that looks so uniformed and crisp. LOVE!

What did you learn as a Lead Event Staff member?: SO much! If I had to choose, I’d say the most crucial takeaway for me was how much confidence I gained in my potential to lead and make decisions. Alyse really encouraged me and had full trust in my ability to handle any situation. She thinks I’m kidding when I say she’s the best boss EVER!

What do you love most about working at WER:
The people, 100%! I’m thousands of miles away from the office, yet I still feel like a part of the team. . .I’m so thankful for that!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to work in the event industry?: Everything that Rebecca said is perfect advice! If I were to add anything. . .ALWAYS be early, pay attention to the small details, and if something goes wrong. . .stay calm!

Waterford Wednesday: Table For Two

Happy Waterford Wednesday friends!
If you follow us on Facebook, you were the first to know about our awesome July linen special. . .11698717_873202156050376_4951968956965723124_nIs there anything more romantic than a table dressed up for two? We don’t think so! Sweetheart tables are one of our absolute favorite parts of a wedding reception. The sweetheart table is where the bride and groom will share their first meal as a married couple and we think that calls for a fabulous table setting! In honor of our July linen special, here are some of our favorite advantages to having a sweetheart table at your reception!

All About YouHaving a sweetheart table, as opposed to a “head table”, will ensure that you will be the focal point at your reception! Your guests will be able to focus on you and in return you will be able to see all of your guests and take in your reception as a whole!

Easy Access
A sweetheart table makes it much easier for your guests to come chat with you and your new spouse! You won’t be surrounded by your family or bridal party, which will allow those that want to congratulate you or share special moment with you the opportunity!

Creative Design OptionsIf you love specialty linens, but don’t want to go all out on each of the guest tables, the sweetheart table provides you the perfect opportunity to explore your creativity! This table is separate from the guest tables and is meant to be a focal point of the reception, so spice it up with a fun linen, centerpiece and chair signs! After all, this table deserves an extra special touch!

Feature Friday: Rebecca Norfleet

It’s Feature Friday. . .and we’re changing things up a bit!
We’re SO excited to “feature” and introduce you to each of our amazing staff members in the coming weeks! First up is this blonde beauty who keeps our office running smoothly!

View More: http://robkorbphotography.pass.us/waterford-2014 Name: Rebecca Norfleet

Age: “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeeelin’ 22!” – Taylor Swift

 Position: Office Manager

How long have you been with Waterford?: 3 and a half years!

What is the most exciting change WER has had over the past few years?: DEFINITELY our growth! When I  first started, we were washing our chair covers at a laundromat, running things out of Alyse’s garage and had a much smaller inventory. Now we have sequins galore, multiple types of chair covers and just about any sash color you could ever imagine…plus more!

College/Major: Currently studying Communications at Old Dominion University, but slipping
on my cap and gown THIS December!

How exciting! Is your role with Waterford going to change after graduation?: Definitely! I will be able to accept a full time position and devote more time to this amazing company. I will acquire more responsibility and not to mention, further my knowledge in the event rental industry. SO excited to continue growing with the company!

Favorite WER Memory: I have SO many good memories with Waterford! It’s hard to narrow down, but I used to love all the crazy looks I would get from my friends when I would iron sashes in my college dorm. See how much we’ve grown over the years?! Ha!

Describe Yourself In 3 Words: Driven, Easy-Going, AWESOME! Just kidding, I’m responsible 🙂

Describe Waterford In 3 Words: Best.Company.Ever.

Favorite Linen: Champagne Blush Lamour. Bet you thought I would say sequins, right?!

Favorite Sash Tie: I’m a sucker for a nice chivari chair with chiffon sashes weaved through the back…trust me, it’s gorgeous!

What do you love most about working at WER: Family. I just LOVE everyone I work with! We’re all like best friends and work so well together. Alyse and I can even finish each other’s sentences, read each other’s minds and some even say we sound exactly the same on the phone! If you’ve been around us, it’s scary how alike we are!

If you aren’t working, where would we find you on the weekend?: Busy being a beach bum on the beaches in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, my favorite place in the world!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to work in the event industry?: ALWAYS be prepared for the unexpected, don’t forget to smile, and ALWAYS offer to help out another vendor. I like to think of Hampton Roads wedding vendors as “community” and not “competition” so it’s important to extend a helping hand to make the event come together smoothly.

Waterford Wednesday: Perfect Place Settings

It’s Waterford Wednesday friends!
We’ve got a fun post today on how to create the perfect place setting for your event! Whether you’re planning a wedding or any other special occasion, chances are the event will require a place setting. A place setting can be so much more than just a plate with some silverware around it; creating a visually appealing setting with a beautiful design that matches the theme of your event is simple to do! Here are some of our top suggestions for creating a one of a kind look:

Keep A Consistent ThemeCaitlin-Gerres-Photography-for-ACE-13Keeping a consistent theme is an important part of creating a place setting! Staying true to your event’s theme, whether it be a particular color, pattern or accent piece will ensure that the look of the table as a whole will be consistent and a true representation of your event. The theme of your event can easily be shown through the plate chargers, napkins, etc. that you choose!

Feature A MenuCaitlin-Gerres-Photography-for-Emily-Weddings-19We can’t recommend this one enough! Including a menu in your place setting will not only allow your guests to preview the meal that will be served (which they will totally appreciate!), but it also gives you the opportunity to get creative in the way you present the menu. Whether you choose to place it on top of a charger, fold it in with a napkin or incorporate it in with your centerpiece, featuring a menu is always a plus!

Accent Special Place Settings Tiltawhirl-Imagery-for-Touche-Events-03Making your guests feel welcome is always an important piece of planning an event! Adding a unique accent or personalized touch to their place setting is an excellent way to do so! Anything from a beautifully designed name card or a thoughtful favor will distinguish each individual and leave them feeling appreciated and thought of!

Don’t forget to check back this Friday for our new Feature Friday posts! Instead of featuring a new linen each week, we will be featuring our very own staff members! We can’t wait to introduce you to the amazing people that make up WER!
