Waterford Wednesday: Fall Wedding Wish List

It’s the last Waterford Wednesday of September!
How in the world is it already almost October?! This past month has flown by, and to say that we’ve been busy is an understatement. As many of you know, we are knee deep in renovating our second warehouse to accommodate our extensive linen collection, so that has been another huge project to add into the mix. Since we are right in the heart of fall wedding season, we’d thought we’d share some things we are hoping to see in the next couple of months!

Burlap Linens

Dmitry Gotkis Photography

Burlap linens are always a fan favorite at Waterford around the fall months! Along with gorgeous hues like burnt orange & burgundy, burlap just “defines” fall in the best possible way. We are definitely looking forward to seeing our burlap linens (sashes, table runners, overlays) sprinkled throughout events this fall!

Brunch Weddings
We mentioned on Facebook last week that a few of our girls were at 12am setup. While you’ll normally see a few of us running around at a midnight breakdown, it’s been a new adventure setting up a wedding so late at night! Over the past month or so we’ve done SO many late night setups for Brunch Weddings. How awesome is that?! You put two of our favorite things together, brunch + weddings, and we are totally on board!

Nature Inspired

Fall represents vibrant colored leaves, cooler air and an overall change. We are hoping to see a lot of nature inspired elements in some of our fall weddings. Using browns, greens, and other earthy shades will really add a beautiful effect that we’d love to see come to life.

Feature Friday: Rosette on Mesh

Welcome back to our Feature Friday posts!
Since we’ve finished introducing you to all of our staff members in our Feature Friday: Staff Edition posts, it’s back to featuring our specialty linens! When you met our staff, many of the ladies said their favorite linen was our Rosette on Mesh specialty linen, so today is all about that linen!

A lot of our brides have been using specialty linens on their guest tables recently and the Rosette on Mesh linen has been a favorite for many.

Waterford Wednesday: Under The Sea Styled Shoot

Happy Waterford Wednesday!
Remember a couple weeks ago when we shared this gorgeous beach styled shoot? Well, you’re in for a treat today, because we have the images from Part 2 of this shoot that the ladies at Jamie Leigh Events dreamt and styled up! We absolutely loved the outdoor beach feel of the first styled shoot, but the “Under The Sea” theme for this particular shoot was so creative and turned out amazing! Check out some of our favorite shots of our linens that Elizabeth Henson Photos captured.

We are just INLOVE with the vibrant color combinations. We are always thrilled to be a part of styled shoots and the JLE ladies did not disappoint in using some of our favorite linens. It’s no secret that we are passionate about our sequins linens, but this turquoise one is just to die for! Our white rouched spandex covers, mint napkins, and gold beaded chargers rounded out this tablescape beautifully! Head over to the Jamie Leigh Events blog to see a full list of vendors!

Feature Friday: Alyse Conyers

We’re down to our last Feature Friday: Staff Edition post
and it’s a very special one! Waterford would be nothing (literally!) without our fearless leader and ultimate boss lady, Alyse! Many of you know her quite well as the woman who runs the Waterford show, but check out her interview below for some in depth
information about how this crazy Waterford journey started!
View More: http://robkorbphotography.pass.us/waterford-2015Name: Alyse Lorraine Conyers

Age: Ummm really??!! Young…VERY young. 🙂

Position: Owner

How long has Waterford been in business?: Since March 22, 2011

College/Major: Degree in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resources from Old Dominion University

Did you always plan on starting your own business, specifically in the wedding industry?: Never! After college I worked for a mutual fund company for a few years then accepted a position with Norfolk Southern’s Human Resources department. At NS I helped coordinate training events for hundreds of employees that came through weekly and also helped with recruiting. I loved that job, however after I had my daughter in 2010 I had the opportunity to be a “stay at home mother.” Well, it wasn’t long before I found myself desiring more – don’t get me wrong…my kids are my #1, but there’s just something about being a business woman and a true entrepreneur that makes me extremely happy (I must get this from my father).
So — I found myself wanting more, so what did I do? Gosh, I don’t think many know this… I started selling my old stuff on eBay, haha! When I got instant gratification from having this “business” I knew I better start coming up with a better life plan (after about 2 months I was out of stuff to sell – haha). I knew I loved events from my previous position at NS, and knew the wedding industry fascinated me (as it does to most women who have been a bride before). So I began to brainstorm with a friend (and the co founder of Waterford Event Rentals), Hollie Albright, of businesses that would involve events, and even better…weddings.
Hollie and I are extremely detail oriented and find passion in design. We appreciate the details. We notice the details. So when it came time to come up with an aspect of the wedding industry to start a business in, we knew it had to be something that was a fine and luxurious detail. We thought chair covers and sashes would be that perfect detail.
We never thought this would be a full time job, rather something to keep our minds stimulated and for me – a way to get out of the house a bit. Well…it took off…it took off FAST. I could go into great detail about the struggles around having to be the product purchaser, cleaner, ironer, person that delivered & set-up, and broke down events etc. but this is already far too lengthy. Even through all the struggles and constant growing pains, I knew Waterford Event Rentals was the something missing in my life.

If you had to pick, what’s the most exciting change WER has had since it was established?: GETTING EMPLOYEES! I can’t even begin to explain the sleepless nights prior to having a wonderful staff. Imagine a mother with a brand new baby…TIMES 5 MILLION!

Where do you see Waterford in the next couple of years: Honestly, I can’t even believe Waterford is where it is today. We are expanding daily (literally) and in the next couple years I foresee new product and new designs…always keeping up with trends and fresh approach to business. Who knows, maybe even delivery jets! We just got another warehouse…I never thought that would be possible, so why not jets? We could totally purchase jets in a few years.

Favorite WER Memory: The moment I stopped and looked around the “A Crystal Clear Vision” event this past March and realized that I (with the help of MANY others) put on an event of that caliber. I still remember exactly where I was in the ballroom. Surreal.

Favorite Employee (just kidding!): Bahaha… Gosh – I love my staff! I often stay up on weekend nights waiting to get a text that everyone has arrived home safely. Waterford employees are like family to me!

Describe yourself in 3 words: Ambitious, Compassionate, Responsible

Describe WER in 3 words: Invincible, Inspiring, Brilliant

Favorite Linen: Way too many to choose…gosh if I had to pick one…a classic Shantung Silk in a soft color.

Favorite Sash Tie: Four Corner Knot with a chiffon sash

You’ve been a part of hundreds of weddings providing linens, is there any particular linen or trend you would incorporate in your own wedding if you could go back?: I loved the linens for my wedding, but I would have done a different sash tie. Back then (aka pre Waterford) the only tie option you ever really saw was the standard bow.

We all know that running a business is a 24 hour job, but where would we find you on a rare day off?: Spending time with my sweet girls (Ella & Ronni) and my husband Steve – usually out and about. We love to shop and go to dinner with family.

Craziest experience: I’m laughing out loud thinking about all of the staff meeting at the laundry mat and looking around and realizing we were taking over the whole place! The people there must have thought we were crazy! I don’t miss cleaning all of our chair covers!

What is the most significant thing you’ve learned from owning your own company: That change is inevitable and there will never be a set of processes that will remain the same. In business things are constantly evolving…you can choose to persevere or be a thing of the past!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in the wedding industry?: It isn’t always roses and butterflies- myself as well as other vendor friends work LONGGG hours and have to do some unrewarding things sometimes to keep our businesses going.

Top 3 things you look for in an employee: Someone who is flexible, enthusiastic, and responsible.

Waterford Wednesday: Oyster Farm Wedding

Happy Waterford Wednesday friends!
This week has been crazy so far as we gear up for a super BUSY wedding filled weekend! We recently received some photos back from a beautiful wedding we were a part of at the newly renovated (and gorgeous!) Oyster Farm at King’s Creek and we just had to share! This wedding was totally speaking our love language with their use of full length sequins linens and pops of coral in the napkins and sashes! Check out some gorgeous detail shots that the fabulous Leigh Skaggs Photography captured.

Not only was the newly renovated Oyster Farm the perfect venue, but the use of so many of our specialty linens made it so glamorous. Using specialty linens on guest tables has been very popular lately and our sequins linens and rosette on mesh linens were the perfect choices to use on the guest tables! The coral polyester sashes and napkins used were the perfect “pop” of color to accompany these specialty linens!

Feature Friday: Madi Say

We’re back again for our Feature Friday: Staff Edition! We’re excited to introduce you to one of our newer Event Staff Members, Madi! Keep reading below to learn more about Madi and her time at Waterford so far!
View More: http://robkorbphotography.pass.us/waterford-2015
Name:
Madi Say

Age: Only a few months shy of the big 2-1!

Position: Event Staff

How long have you been with Waterford?: Only since June of this year, but it feels like I’ve known my fellow employees for years!

College/Major: I attend JMU where I’m majoring in Studio Media Arts & Design with a concentration in Integrated Advertising & Corporate Communications.

Favorite WER Memory: Probably the time Alyse cooked an amazing pasta dinner at our staff meeting. I mean who doesn’t love food, am I right?!

Describe yourself in 3 words: Creative, Down-to-earth, Loving

Describe WER in 3 words: Driven, Skilled, Hard-working

What do you love most about working at WER?: I love the fact that I just joined the staff and already I feel right at home. I’m not intimidated to ask questions and everyone is so sweet and outgoing that there is never a dull moment.

Favorite Linen: Wow, can I say all? I absolutely love just about any linen that is ivory or champagne or follows a neutral theme. However, when you add a specialty linen such as a petal or rosette on mesh it can really make it pop!

Favorite Sash Tie: The four corner bow, just because it’s unique, but still classy.

What linen trend are you loving this wedding season?: I never would have though about sequin linens for a wedding, however, it looks absolutely amazing when people use it for a present or dessert table! It gives it that extra umph without going overboard.

If you aren’t working, where would we find you on the weekend?: Beach of course!

Craziest setup OR breakdown story: This was actually a hilarious story and the staff at the Holiday Inn were probably cracking up the whole time. Hayley and I were doing a setup and just as we got there, there was a huge downpour of rain. We tried using groceries bags to cover ourselves but it was no use. We looked like we had jumped in their pool!

What is your favorite part of the setup process at an event?: I love seeing how the venue looked before and after we’ve added our special touch to it 😉

What is the most significant thing you’ve learned from working in the event industry?: One very specific thing I’ve learned from WER is that sometimes not everything goes as planned so you may have to adjust at times in order to make someone’s special day unforgettable!

you to our Waterford staff members!

Waterford Wednesday: Fall Linen Trends

We’re back for another Waterford Wednesday post!
Today is all about one of our favorite things: Fall Linen Trends! We love following along as the linen trends change from season to season and we have to say this fall has some awesome trends!

Nature
Ruffled - photo by http://www.chelseaandersonphotography.com/ - http://ruffledblog.com/crimson-bohemian-wedding-inspiration
Incorporating the gorgeous shades of the outside world around us is becoming super popular this fall! Browns, lush greenery and crimson are just a few shades that will bring Mother Nature into your tablescape and leave your guests talking!

Metallic
Andrew-and-Tianna-for-Cherry-Blossom-Weddings-22Honestly, will metallic hues ever go out of style? We sure hope not! Metallics are always one of our personal favorite linen choices because they just always look fantastic! Metallic shades are so versatile and can be transitioned to fall and winter when paired with the right accent color!

Bold Shades & Patterns
Andrew-and-Tianna-for-Botanique-Events-03
We love when brides are willing to be different, and going for a bold linen statement at their reception is one way to do so this fall! Instead of only utilizing basic linens, throw a statement linen in a bold color on your guests tables paired with some gorgeous fall accessories!

Feature Friday: Morgan Rushin

It’s another Feature Friday: Staff Edition! You’ve almost met all of the wonderful ladies that make up our Waterford family, and today we’re adding Morgan to that list! Check out her interview below to see how she went from our Spring 2015 Intern to one of our Event Staff Members!
View More: http://robkorbphotography.pass.us/waterford-2015
Name: Morgan Rushin

Age: 21

Position: Spring 2015 Intern & Event Staff

How long have you been with Waterford?: I started interning for Waterford in January and became an Event Staff member in May.

How was the transition from being an Intern into an Event Staff member?: When transitioning to Event Staff I wasn’t really sure what to expect. My internship involved me doing a lot of newsletters, invoices, and behind the scenes stuff, so I never realized how much the girls need to pay attention to detail and that it’s really easy to make honest mistakes. Being an Event Staff member definitely helped me learn so much about linens and what it takes to make an event perfect.

What was the coolest thing you got to do while interning at WER?: I got to shadow an event planner, Missy Christianson, from Antonia Christianson Events! It was really exciting to see what a day in the life of an event planner was like. Although it can be somewhat stressful, I realized that making a bride’s wedding day run smoothly and perfect is definitely worth the stress!

College/Major: I go to Old Dominion University and am majoring in Marketing with a minor in Philosophy.

Favorite WER Memory: That time I got a free lunch! Rebecca’s boyfriend sent her Jimmy John’s to the office, but she was off that day so she let me have it. (:

Describe yourself in 3 words: Hardworking, Driven, Kind

Describe WER in 3 words: Professional, Dedicated, Growing

What do you love most about working at WER?: I love how professional and organized Alyse & Rebecca are. Out of all of my internships this was definitely my favorite one! I truly enjoyed going to work and would be willing to go above and beyond their expectations. The great thing is that all the girls are so nice and the Waterford family is so close!

Favorite Linen: Our Petal linens!

Favorite Sash Tie: Center Bow

If you aren’t working, where would we find you on the weekend?: You would find me out at a restaurant trying new foods or home watching TV!

What is the most significant thing you’ve learned from interning and now being an Event Staff member at Waterford?: I learned that the industry is not easy, especially for event planners. Making an event perfect takes A LOT of work. People don’t realize that in order to set up or breakdown an event you have to call venues and get time slots and sometimes we only have an hour or two to set up. I’ve learned a lot about paying attention to detail as well. Before working for Waterford I never really noticed linens and how much they make a huge difference! I also learned a lot about myself, and what I want to do later on in life. I have a lot of interest in the event planning industry and would love to do corporate events in the future!

you to our Waterford staff members!
